SIESTA: the inspiration behind the SS23 collection

The Spring Summer 2023 collection is a love letter to holidays spent at the Mediterranean. Creative director Melinda Tóth captures her dearest travel memories in SIESTA and pays tribute to painter Joaquín Sorolla.

'Siesta' is a Spanish word referring to a nap or break to rest, usually taken in the afternoon. The combination of a hearty lunch and the radiating heat in the Mediterranean is a natural sedative, in the very best sense. Siesta is a moment of repose, a chance to slow down which is reflected in our brand's dedication to slow fashion, mindful consumption, longevity and timelessness.

Much like DAIGE drops, coastal Spain is its own magical universe where the traveler spends their time exploring hidden gardens, getting lost in the maze of cobblestoned streets and tanning on sandy beaches.

Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla captured these moments impeccably in his impressionist-style artworks. It's his masterful use of color that influenced the color palette of SIESTA that contrasts bright, bold tones with soft pastels.

The signature prints of the collection, designed and developed in-house are inspired by Spanish landscape and architecture. Florals and deconstructed tile print allude to the harmonious relationship between nature and man-made. An even more direct reference is the use of Madeira embroidery (also known as broderie anglaise), a traditional whitework embroidery originating from the island of Madeira. Alongside these breathable cotton wardrobe essentials the collection features statement pieces made from crisp taffeta and functional windbreakers.

The ruffle details adorning skirts, dresses and trousers echo the waves of the Mediterranean sea. Organic lines define the silhouettes, resulting in both figure-hugging and loose-fitting styles..
